When Sheriff Christopher Swanson took over at the Genesee County Sheriff's Department, I'm not sure if he set out to have the most star-studded honorary Deputy Sheriff lineup in Michigan state history. But, he currently does after this past weekend's ceremony.

In case you missed it, last year Sheriff Swanson invited country superstar and overall good guy Kane Brown, to become a deputy sheriff while he was in town promoting his album Different Man.

Anyone paying attention to the Genesee County Sheriff this year has probably noticed the high-profile relationship that he's developed with another massive crossover country star, Jellyroll.

Earlier this year, after being challenged by the singer, Sheriff Swanson and his staff helped open the Jelly Roll Recording School. Jelly Roll himself is a former inmate, and he credits his time behind bars and the changes he made to his life afterward, to the incredible career he has today. That's why he challenged Swanson to open the school, offering an opportunity for Genesee Co. inmates to get creative, while learning skills they can apply to life after their time behind bars.

In a TikTok video posted over the weekend, Jelly Roll is shown to be hanging with his friends at the Genesee County Sheriff's office.. In the video, Jelly Roll announces with joy, "From Convict to Deputy!" before they swear him in and give him his own badge.

While his new "powers" are honorary, it's a touching moment showing that people can change their lives around for the better. After the gifts Jelly Roll has helped other inmates receive while they serve their time, it's only fitting he has a badge too.

Jelly Roll was on hand for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new music studio inside the Genesee County Jail. In a big surprise, Sheriff Chris Swanson took the opportunity to deputize the singer with full oath and badge. Jelly Roll rounded out the celebration with a mini-concert of two songs.
