As an excited parent of a young boy who adores Eric Carle’s books, the opening of Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum couldn’t have come at a better time. Starting September 21 and running through January 5, 2025, this exhibit promises to be a magical experience for families, bringing the enchanting world of Eric Carle’s stories to life.

I've read The Very Hungry Caterpillar countless times and my son even has a catepillar in his crib that he loves- so this is perfect for families who love to read. We can’t wait to step into the pages of his favorite book and follow the caterpillar’s journey firsthand.

The exhibit will also welcome visitors of all ages to weave webs like the Very Busy Spider and find his own light like the Very Lonely Firefly. And with the hands-on activity of making the Very Clumsy Click Beetle flip and jump, your kiddo's excitement will be off the charts.

For this family, it’s more than just an outing—it’s a chance to spark my son’s creativity by creating artwork inspired by Carle’s signature tissue paper collage technique. The added gallery of prints from Carle’s “Very” book series will be the perfect touch for parents who appreciate the artistry behind the books. This exhibit is exactly what we’ve been waiting for, a perfect mix of fun, creativity, and learning that’s sure to be a memorable family experience.
