As a concerned parent, it's disheartening to see other parents setting a bad example for our students at high school events. Thursday night's altercation at the Parchment football game against Comstock is a prime example of behavior that shouldn't be tolerated.

The district has commended the swift actions of school officials who responded to the fight near the end zone. According to the district, both students and adults were involved in the altercation. Thankfully, no weapons were found, and no injuries were reported, but the incident highlights a larger issue.

It’s frustrating to see adults, who should be role models, participating in such behavior. Our kids are watching, and when they see this kind of conduct, it sends the wrong message. We need to set a higher standard, especially at school functions where safety and sportsmanship should be top priorities.

The school district took to social media on Friday morning to remind everyone that attending school athletic events is a privilege. They made it clear that any failure to conduct oneself in a safe and orderly manner will result in removal from future events. This is a necessary step to ensure the safety of staff, students, and community members.

Students were briefly held inside the school while staff and local law enforcement de-escalated the situation. As parents, we need to do better and show our children what it means to be responsible, respectful, and supportive at these events.
