West Michigan drivers are facing even more frustration as the bridge repair project on US-131 continues to drag on. Originally slated for completion by September 13, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that the project is now about two weeks behind schedule.

The repair work, which has closed the ramp from US-131 northbound to I-96 since April, has become a major headache for daily commuters. Typically, this single ramp provides quick access to both directions of I-96, making it a crucial route for many drivers. However, the ongoing closure has forced them onto a detour that adds significant time and aggravation to their journeys.

The detour requires drivers to continue north on US-131, exit at West River Drive, and then re-enter the highway heading south to finally access I-96. This route has proven to be anything but smooth, with delays at two traffic signals, frequent backups on the exit ramp, and increased congestion on southbound US-131 due to the heavier on-ramp traffic.

Additionally, the Ann Street exit ramp has also seen regular backups, further adding to the frustrations of drivers trying to navigate the area.

As the project stretches beyond its anticipated end date, drivers are left wondering when relief will finally arrive. The extended construction timeline continues to test the patience of those who rely on these roads daily. MDOT has yet to provide an updated completion date, leaving many to brace for more delays and detours in the weeks ahead.
