Your Check is No Good At Target Stores Anymore
Admit it. Do you still carry your checkbook with you to pay for things at stores anymore?
Probably the answer is NO! Very, very few of us do.
And that is why Target just confirmed that they plan to fully stop accepting personal checks as a form of payment in stores starting on July 15, according to Fox17.
What's up with that?
It seems to be pretty simple. We are not writing checks anymore, well, mostly, that is. Some seniors may still write checks as they have done for decades. The rest of us us use our debit, credit, or in-store cards for payment. Right?
You can't forget about cash. It is probably near the bottom of the list, too, but isn't cash king?
It's interesting though, speaking of cash, The Federal Reserve says there is a generational divide among those using cash versus electronic payments. If you're younger than age 55, you used cash for just 12% of payments in 2023, compared to 22% for those age 55 and older. And, for the first time, cash was not the most-used payment even for smaller payments of $25 or less.
At any rate, Target has quietly announced that as of a week from today, July 15, they will not be accepting checks as a form of payment for goods purchased in stores.
Target says that all customers can use other ways to pay at stores and online, including the company's Target Circle Cards — which were formerly called the Target RedCard, and use cash or SNAP/EBT cards, or the company's buy now, pay later services. As usual customers can always use their debit or credit cards. It's just, bye-bye checks!
