One of Michigan’s Most Unique Historic Homes Has Awesome Backstory
One of the most iconic homes in Michigan has so many fond memories attached to it, even though it gives off strong Halloween vibes.
Recently someone highlighted the Chappell-Stewart Home on Elm St. in the Stuart Neighborhood Historic District in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Stick Victorian-style home was built in 1883 and has long been one of the gems of Downtown Kalamazoo.
One woman, who was best friends with one of the girls of a former family that lived there, shared a special memory of her friend in the comment section of the Facebook post:
My favorite old house. My BFF lived there and we watched President Kennedy's funeral there. So many stories and memories there. Meg Berry and I found a HUGE old umbrella in the attic. It was raining outside and we both fit under it with the handle pushed into the ground.
Some people have called it the Witch House, but everyone knows the only Witch House is the home that once belonged to Salem Witch Trials Judge Jonathan Corwin in Salem, MA. Even though it does have a witchy look, nothing could be further from the truth.
One person even thought it was a witch's home:
Super cool. I'd like to think a spooky little green witch lived there.
The truth is, it actually has a new owner, Dok Stevens, who commented on her personal love for the home:
I’m not a witch, but I am the new owner! I’ve had a crush on this house for over 30 years, and I’m so glad to live here and fix her up!
The house has had many owners since being built by Delos Chappell in 1883, and has had many owners, who over time rented rooms to students, giving people the chance to experience this one-of-a-kind home themselves.
