For Real? Man Breaks Into Bay County Jail, Then Attacks Inmate and Officer
It’s not very often you hear about someone trying to break into a jail. Usually, people are figuring out how to get out.
But police say that’s exactly what happened in Bay County this past spring, when a paroled bank robber allegedly smashed his way into the Law Enforcement Center, racking up $30,000 in damage. And that was just the beginning of the chaos. Seriously, this guy was on a mission.
Paroled Bank Robber Breaks Into Bay County Jail
The crazy surveillance video (below) shows 38-year-old Shane W. Gillette punching, kicking, and ramming the glass doors until they gave way, then walking into the lobby and daring officers to come get him. It was a wild scene to say the least.
Inmate and Corrections Officer Assaults in Bay County Jail
According to MLive, the chaos didn’t stop there. The very next day, Gillette was allegedly caught on camera punching an inmate in the face, not once, not twice, but around 16 times. The victim said he hadn’t done anything to set him off and even resisted defending himself to avoid another charge. But wait, that's not all.
About a month later, while still in jail, Gillette allegedly went after a corrections officer. Reports say he threw a bowl of water at the officer, grabbed him by the throat, and blasted him several times in the face before being tackled by another officer.
Trial Set for August in Bay County Break-In Case
Now, Gillette is facing a bunch of new charges, including assault of a jail employee, aggravated assault, and destruction of police property. His trial for the break-in is set to start on Aug. 19.
Gillette was still on parole for a 2021 bank robbery when he pulled the May 12 stunt, and his parole was supposed to last until 2026. Yeah…that’s probably not happening now.
I have a feeling this guy is going away for a long time.
