Wait, What? New Michigan Law Lets You Miss Work Without Calling In
Michigan business owners are freaking out over a bizarre new law set to go into effect next month.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve told you about several new laws coming to Michigan this year, including a new sick time policy.
Somehow, a different policy was slipped into the new sick time policy, flying under the radar for many, as it hasn’t received much attention.
It all falls under paid leave and minimum wage legislation, and some aspects of it are a little disturbing. It's no surprise that some Michigan business owners are fired up—and rightfully so.
New Michigan Law Gives Workers 3 No-Call Days
Listen to this: You can do a no-call, no-show for three days straight and not get fired from your job. This might just be one of the craziest new laws in Michigan. When I first heard about it, I didn’t think it was true. I’m not going to lie—I’m still a bit skeptical because it just seems so radical.
According to NewsMax, under the framework, employees could no-call-no-show several shifts and still be protected from termination. Say what?
While that may seem crazy in itself, we're not done yet. Get this: if a boss or manager tries to discipline someone for doing this, the business owner can be fined by the state of Michigan.
How in the world was this approved?
This sets a pretty bad example for the kind of values we should be promoting in the workplace.
The new law goes into effect in February.
