With the holidays coming up, Michigan postal workers and those around the country will be working overtime to make sure our gifts reach their destination.

They are truly our unsung heroes. It makes sense why we would want to give them something for all of their hard work.

Did you know that Michigan mail carriers are not allowed to accept certain types of gifts?

If you did not, it is time to learn. This is mainly for ethical reasons and safety for the mail carriers.

Here are the things that Michigan mail carriers will NOT accept.

Cash

While many of us would love cash as a gift for the holidays, it would not be wise to send cash through the mail.

Postal workers are not allowed to accept cash or money as gifts. They deserve it, however, it can be seen as favoritism or bribery.

Alcohol

This should not be a surprise to anyone. Giving alcohol is completely off-limits.

It could be an expensive bottle of wine or one of your festive beverages, however, postal workers cannot accept any of it as gifts.

Expensive Gifts

While certain gifts are encouraged, there are stipulations. The U.S. Postal Service prevents postal workers from accepting any gifts that are over $20 (and no more than $50 from the same customers per year).

Gift Cards

This is essentially the same reason why cash and expensive gifts are not allowed. The U.S. Postal Service also discourages from giving any workers gift cards.

Even though they cannot accept certain items, you can give thoughtful gifts like snacks or a card.
