Michigan Among Top 15 Most Unhealthy States in the U.S.
Michigan is known for its good eats and indulgences.
There is a city that is all about beer - Grand Rapids is "Beer City."
However, those indulgences may have gotten us caught up a little bit.
This is a new study that includes Michigan as being one of the most unhealthy states in the United States.
It is not about the food we eat, which is probably also a huge factor as well, but it tackles other day-to-day factors that contribute to the study.
What Determined The Most Unhealthy States?
While your "geological location significantly influences health outcomes," there are other factors at play that helped determine these findings.
Wagner Reese's study used data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Lung Association.
It analyzed five different factors to find the most unhealthy states.
- Diabetes Rates
- Smoking Rates
- Obesity Rates
- Food Insecurity
- Air Quality
Also, the lack of physical activity affected these findings.
"Physical inactivity is another leading cause of health issues. Many states report low levels of physical exercise among their populations. Sedentary lifestyles contribute to obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health problems."
