Walker Library To Close For Over A Year—Here’s What You Need To Know

As a book lover, I am always the person screaming at the top of my lungs about my love of the library.

There are endless resources that go overlooked unless you are an active library patron.

However, it is a bittersweet day for those who use the Walker Library branch.

Walker Library Closed

The Walker Branch of the Kent District Library system announced that it will be closed on January 18th for over a year!

Before you get upset, the closure is for a good reason.

During the closure, the library will be getting a new makeover with a second floor, a children's center a podcasting studio, and an eSports lounge located inside.

Besides those new features, there will also be a new roof added to the existing building. Plus, there are also plans to repurpose the library's information technology department, the community room, and all of the administration offices.

Thankfully, the Kent District Library did not leave you and your love of books high and dry.

Starting on February 3rd, 2025, a new temporary library location will be open to Walker residents at 445 Standale Plaza NW.

For now, all hold requests for the current Walker branch will be paused until the temporary location is open.

With these new renovations and upgrades, the branch is planned to be closed through late 2026.

Thankfully, there are still other branches that are still open, plus you have access to the library online through the Kent District Library app.
