There’s a Major Change Coming to Every Jimmy John’s in 2025 – Michigan Is a Test Market Now
Jimmy John's is well known across Michigan for their 'freaky fast' sub sandwiches. With 210 locations across the state, there are more Jimmy John's locations in Michigan than any other state other than the chain's home state of Illinois.
In 2025 every single Jimmy John's will see a major change. Since the restaurant's inception, the subs have only been available served cold. The hot sub trend has been, well hot and cold, across the industry. Consider industry behemoth Subway has has long offered toasted subs across their chain, however, anecdotally it would seem many customers go for a cold sandwich.
On the other side of the spectrum, consider Quizno's. The chain known exclusively for toasty subs has risen a rise and fall rollercoaster that's been widely covered by the business press.

So what is Jimmy John's prepping? Their version of toasted subs. The chain has test-marketed toasted subs and a subreddit focusing on the chain indicates that the change is rolling out nationwide in 2025.
While many (most) restaurant chains have limited time offer menu items, the toasted sub chain appears both universal and permanent. The rollout is projected to launch March 3, 2025.
A JJ employee who indicates they are located in West Michigan shared on the same Reddit forum that their toasting machine arrived recently. This location is slated to offer toasted subs at the end of September 2024.
What Sandwiches Will Jimmy John's Offer Toasted?
Here's where it gets interesting as the Jimmy John's toasted sub change begins to roll out. In test markets, there appear to be special sandwiches for a 'toasted menu' like meatball (currently not offered in the cold-only shops) and Chicken Bacon Ranch.
The West Michigan JJ employee shares:
In the fall, we will be testing 5 new hot subs. These will be exclusive to the West Michigan.
Chicken Bacon Ranch
Roast Beef & Cheddar
Ultimate Italian
Ham Cheddar Stack
Three Cheese Chicken Melt
However, some who work in toasted test stores say the full line could be toasted.
We’ve had one for about a week! They’re soooooo good. I’ve had #7, #10, and #11. Bacon also makes everything better. Smells so good. I know everyone is worried but I think it’s going to make our sales even better.
One other consideration, how will the toasting slow the 'freaky fast' characteristic of the chain? Employees state a single sub will be toasted in less than 60 seconds. A minute of toasting if 2 subs are in the oven.
