First things first: How did it take this long for someone to cast John Turturro as Jenny Slate’s dad?! Now that we’ve gotten that important business out of the way, let’s discuss the first trailer for Landline, which looks insanely good. Slate reunites with Obvious Child filmmaker Gillian Robespierre — and really, you don’t need much more of a sales pitch than that, but the trailer is still worth a watch (or two, or three…I may have a problem).

Describing this movie is like offering a checklist of reasons to watch: Set in the ’90s (check), Landline tells the story of Dana (Slate, check), a recently engaged woman trying to figure out her place in the world and what she wants to do with her life (check) — which may not involve her fiancé, played by Jay Duplass (check). When her teenage sister (Abby Quinn) discovers their father is cheating on their mother (Edie Falco, check), the two grow even closer than before. Oh, there’s also a scene in which Slate is dressed in a garbage bag (she’s a California Raisin, duh).

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

When two sisters suspect their father (John Turturro) may be having an affair, it sends them into a tailspin that reveals cracks in the family façade. For the first time, older sister Dana (Jenny Slate), recently engaged and struggling with her own fidelity, finds herself bonding with her wild teenage sister Ali (Abby Quinn). The two try to uncover the truth without tipping off their mother (Edie Falco) and discover the messy reality of love and sex in the process. Set in 1990s Manhattan, Landline is a warm, insightful and comedic drama about a family united by secrets and lies, co-written and directed by Gillian Robespierre (Obvious Child).

Landline also stars Finn Wittrock and hits select theaters on July 21 before expanding nationwide on August 4.
