Michigan’s Longest, Most Iconic Covered Bridge Was Just Closed to Traffic Indefinitely
The Langley Covered Bridge is the longest in the state of Michigan. It's a majestic structure and makes for a perfect little side trip when visiting the southwest corner of the state.
The historic structure has just been closed indefinitely by the St Joseph County Road Commission.

The closure happened today (Monday, December 9, 2024) after the overhead height limiters were struck on both ends of the bridge in the previous week and were taken down. The limiters are the overhead guide signs that warn over height vehicles of the danger of crossing the bridge not only to the vehicle but to the bridge structure.
The road commission will need to make the repairs to the guide structures before the bridge can be reopened to traffic.

The plastic bar seen in the photo below is part of the damage that caused the closure.
There is no current timeline given for reopening the bridge. Angevine Road, to the east, provides an alternate crossing of the river.
