Lions And Wolverines Dedicate Wins To Oxford High Families
Dan Campbell may prove to be a good football coach one day, but after Sunday's win, he's already proven to be a great human being.
Campbell gave the game ball in Sunday's win and dedicated it to the families of those who were killed and wounded in the Oxford High school shooting.
In the post-game press conference, Campbell was somber as he mentioned the names of those who were killed and wounded. Imploring fans to 'never forget'.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff fought back tears and struggled for words as he hoped the game could be a little bit of an escape for the people involved.
Both teams also donned 'Oxford Strong' t-shirts for their pre-game warmups, and Lion safety Jalen Elliot wore a special '42' jersey honoring the number of Oxford football standout Tate Myre who was killed in the shootings.
The Lions tribute to those suffering in Oxford came on the day after the Michigan Wolverines dedicated their Big Ten Championship game win to the families as well.
Not only did the Wolverines don a patch to honor the victims, but the team invited Myre's parents and brothers to Indianapolis for the game, and they were also on the field with the captains for the pre-game coin toss.
The Michigan tribute was the brain child of captain Aidan Hutchinson, who admitted that he had 'chills' when Coach Jim Harbaugh told him to look at the scoreboard after the win.
The team had put up 42 points.
It's another reminder that football is just a diversion from our everyday lives, and that there are way more important things going on in our world.
And if just for a moment, you counted your blessings, and realized how precious life is, how fleeting it can be, than the point was well taken.
