Blake Harms Returns to W. Michigan to Join Storm Team 8
WOOD TV 8's team of meteorologists is adding another person to become the largest weather forecasting team in West Michigan. The new addition to the team just happens to be a native of the West Michigan area.
Meteorologist Blake Harms grew up in West Michigan, living in Hudsonville. Blake says he was inspired to become a meteorologist because of the group of weather forecasters at WOOD TV, including long-time meteorologist and local icon Bill Steffen. In a dream that came true, Harms has been hired to round out the expanded Storm Team 8 which includes Chief Meteorologist Emeritus Bill Steffen, Chief Meteorologist Ellen Bacca, along with the other staff meteorologists Terri DeBoer, Matt Kirkwood, and Sara Flynn.
You have probably seen Blake on TV 8 in the past. He has been responsible for the school closing predictions for the last couple of years, and also filled in occasionally on the air giving us the weather forecast.
Harms graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana with a degree in meteorology. One of his internships was at WOOD TV 8 and afterward, he was hired as a weather producer. He most recently was the morning meteorologist at WLNS TV in Lansing, which is owned by Nexstar -- the same company that owns WOOD TV 8.
In his new position with Storm Team 8, Blake will be the weekend meteorologist at 6, 10, and 11 pm. He will also cover weather reporting during the rest of the week. He joins the team on Monday, November 7th.
Blake is also a big NASCAR fan and is even involved in racing on a local level. Last year he was part of the track announcing team at Berlin Raceway.
And like his mentor, Bill Steffen, Blake also is a cat owner. His cats, Barney and Burton, are both named after NASCAR drivers.
You may remember Bill Steffen's cats became YouTube stars during COVID as they fought in the background while Bill was broadcasting from his man cave. The video was viewed over 1 million times...
Congratulations and welcome home, Blake!
