Tell someone you're flying to Los Angeles and you would most likely say you're heading to LAX, the airport code for Los Angeles International airport. The city of Portland, Oregon is nicknamed by its airport code of PDX. The same can be said for Atlanta (the ATL), Albuquerque (ABQ) and the Dallas Fort Worth area (DFW).
But what about Michigan? Not many people claim to be repping DTW or wax affinity for GRR. There are 17 commercial airports in Michigan and, we dare say, none of those airport codes are particularly iconic.

Every airport in the world carries a three letter code as defined by the IATA, the International Air Transport Association. The same code is used across counties and airlines to define every airport on the planet. These codes are the ones you see printed on, say, a baggage tag.
The question came up on Reddit recently asking how many cities have iconic IATA airport codes.
