Bizarre New Classification Puts Michigan in America’s Northeast Region
Anyone who can look at a map would pretty instinctively put Michigan into the Midwest of the United States. Or perhaps the Great Lakes.
Almost no one would place the state into the nation's northeast - unless you were to apply some odd but oddly logical thinking to dividing the nation.

In a map that appears on a Facebook page called "Usa Thoughts" (almost certainly foreign bot) the country is equally divided into 9 square regions by east-mid-west and north-mid-south.
Dividing the United States that way puts most of Michigan into the North-East quadrant. The North-Mid section begins as roughly the western shore of Lake Michigan, so the Western Upper Peninsula - say Menominee and Marquette westward - becomes part of the Mid-North.
All of Michigan's Lower Peninsula and the Eastern UP are in the North East, with that region's border being roughly at the Michigan state line.
So with the nation divided this way, Michigan through New York and Massachusetts to Maine become the North East.

Ohio and Indiana are in the Mid East. Illinois joins the aptly named Mid Mid region while Wisconsin heads to the Mid North.
Interestingly, the Midwest - the region most commonly associated with Michigan would include the true west: the 4 Corners region, all of Utah and Nevada along with Northern California.
The Midwest is, of course, named for when this region of the country was truly the western extent of the US.
While the map is certainly total bunk, it's an interesting thought to consider different ways to geographically divide the union.
