The Justice Department filed a criminal complaint against a Michigan man yesterday for allegedly planting pipe bombs at two stores in the state.

John Douglas Allen was allegedly angry about “immoral communications,” which he supposedly defines as foul language, pornography, and “all manner of indecent communications.”

The bombs were placed in boxes along with handcuffs and had “Handcuff Johnny” writer on them. Allen also allegedly wrote notes addressed to AT&T, Verizon, and “all other carriers,” threatening to go around the country and “being distroying (sic) inner-city tower communication” unless his demands were met.

Federal agents were able to identify Allen after seeing his vehicle on a toll camera system. He allegedly admitted to planting the bombs; he also claimed to be part of the “Coalition for Moral Telecommunication,” which prosecutors say he later admitted was a made-up organization.

Allen allegedly also admitted he acted alone; he’s been charged with extortion and attempted damage or destruction of buildings.

Allen is a 75-year-old retired miner who is currently residing in Whittemore in Iosco County near Tawas.

Photos provided by the US Attorneys office show a man placing a pipe bomb outside a store in Sault Ste. Marie in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Another similar device was also found outside a store in Cheboygan in the northern Lower Peninsula.

Immorality can be found anywhere, John, so put your phone down, and go out and talk to real people once in a while. It's kind of refreshing.
