The University of Michigan is a world-renown institute of higher learning. A U of M degree can open doors. The Ann Arbor campus is of course, the flagship with the university system also hosting campus locations in Flint and Dearborn. This week the school announced they are opening a physical campus for their Ross School of Business in Los Angeles, California.

The announcement of the out-of-state campus has brought out both positive and negative reactions from the university community in a thread dedicated to the news on Reddit.

From the positive side, Wolverine backers swelled with pride that a branch of the university would reach so far afield. Some noted that Ross MBAs may be obtained via online programs, so being physically present in Ann Arbor is currently not a requirement to earn a sheepskin.

Others have noted that high profile institutions have remote campuses.

Yep. Keeping up with Wharton, plus NYU Stern has a campus in China.

The other side of the coin, there were those who took issue with a Michigan campus so far from the state.

Some alumni say that without living in A2 and dealing with Michigan winters, it's not the same.

Another commenter points out that Michigan is a public university funded by Michigan taxpayers. The counter to that is Ross MBAs are not the same as, say, an undergrad education and in- vs out-of-state tuition are other $5,000 difference. A small number when the tuition is nearly $200k.

Which ever way you feel about the new U of M campus, the school can now add a little mustard to the 'champions of the West' line in 'The Victors' fight song.
