As with nearly every sport, when it comes down to it, it's always a game of inches. From attempting to eek out a first down in football to a running versus a fielder attempting to make a tag in baseball, the littlest things.

Here's the situation: a Michigan State batter hits what appears to be a double caroming off the outfield wall. The center fielder throws the ball to the shortstop to keep the running at second.

However, the runner, perplexed, is called out as the play ends as she clearly beats the tag.

The batter-runner (the official umpiring term for a runner after they put the ball into play and begin to advance around the bases) does easily beat the throw.

However, as she's celebrating the double, she jumps on and off the bag. The very astute shortstop seeing the runner has left the safety of second base tags her on the backside in clear view of the umpire who registers the out.
