Michigan’s Signature Drink Is What?
Some states are synonymous with certain beverages. For example, if you are in California you might expect to sip a glass of red wine from the Napa Valley. Taking a trek around Seattle? You'd be right on target with a hot cup of Starbucks. So what would you be drinking in Michigan? You might think it would be a pint of Bells Oberon. Possibly even a Vernor's. So what IS Michigan's signature drink?
According to Stacker.com, we like a drink called "The Hummer". Jerome Adams created this boozy ice cream drink in 1968 at Detroit’s Bayview Yacht Club. The hummer is made with white rum, Kahlua, and two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Here's the recipe from punchdrink.com:
INGREDIENTS
Serving: 1
- 1 1/2 ounces white rum, preferably Bacardi Light
- 1 1/2 ounces Kahlua
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
DIRECTIONS
- Add all ingredients to a blender, add two ice cubes and blend until smooth.
- Pour into a rocks glass.
In fancier restaurants you’ll often find it in a wine glass, topped with whipped cream.
Sometimes a signature drink can help solidify an area. Some that come to mind...Jack Daniels and Tennessee. Budweiser and Missouri. Some states even have drinks that are designated as their official state beverages. In fact, the most popular state beverage across the country is, believe it or not, milk—19 states claim milk as their official state beverage.
Our neighboring state of Indiana went with the big personality drink of...WATER! Stay thirsty my friends!
