The watch cautions:
Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 4 and
12 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
The largest impact, should the storm shape up will be to travel in the region.
The counties under the watch are the lakeshore counties and one-county-inland from Van Buren-Kalamazoo north to Petoskey.
This does include cities like Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, Ludington, Manistee, Cadillac and Traverse City.
There are two separate Winter Storm Watches issued. One from the NWS in Grand Rapids covers the area from roughly Ludington south. Another watch from NWS in Gaylord covers the northern portion of West Michigan. The Grand Rapids-based warning is for a slightly longer duration and a wider variation in snow totals from 4-12 inches while the northern warning is calling for the potential of 6-12 inches of accumulation.

As with any watch, it means conditions are right for the events, but they are not yet official warnings. Expect any warning to be issued in the next 24 hours as forecast modes shape up with more certainty.
