The location that was once MOD Pizza on Alpine Avenue in Walker is set to get a new tenant soon.

MOD Pizza closed its final Grand Rapids area location in February 2025. Signs for the built-your-own pizza chain were removed almost immediately from the building that fronts Alpine between Target and Best Buy. A previous MOD location along 28th Street predated the Alpine closure by some time.

Along with losing the exterior branding on the MOD storefront, opaque brown construction paper went up immediately on all of the restaurant's doors and windows obscuring anything happening inside.

Now heading into spring there are signs of life at 3300 Alpine. A building permit from the City of Walker is posted on the door for a restaurant rehabilitation and the new tenant appears to be a Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

A peek behind the construction paper on April 2 revealed the interior of the restaurant had been gutted. Gone were the pizza ovens. It's likely to make room for a grill and fryers.

The northwest side of the Grand Rapids metro is the only quadrant of the region without a 5 Guys location. Other outlets for the chain exist along 44th Street in Grandville, 28th Street in Kentwood and along the Beltline in Knapp's Corner. A 5 Guys also exists along the Lakeshore in Holland.

An Alpine location is not listed at coming soon on the 5 Guys website.
