Mother of Murdered 4-Year-Old Arrested on Unrelated Charges by Wyoming Police

Sonja Hernandez, the mother of 4-year-old Giovanni Mejias, has been arrested. FOX-17 reports that she has been arrested on charges unrelated to the death of her son.

Giovanni passed away Tuesday, June 13 at the hospital after a 911 call was placed stating that the child was not breathing. Hernandez's boyfriend, Elis Nelson Ortiz (who is not the boy's father), has been arrested and charged with murdering the boy.

A search of Hernandez in the Kent County Jail's database shows that she is currently being held there, but her charges have not been published, and will not be available until after she's arraigned.

WOOD-TV 8 reports that that Hernandez's surviving children have been removed from the home by Child Protective Services.
