According to the GRPD, the vandalism occurred overnight Monday, May 16 into Tuesday, May 17.

The extent of the damage was not revealed.

In Grand Rapids, the City Commission is a legislative body and its members are the community’s policy-makers.

Here is more on the role of City Commissioners from the City of GR:

The Mayor is the official head of the City and presides at meetings of the City Commission’s decisions. This person is elected “at large,” or by the entire City. This legislative body for the Commissioners consists of the Mayor and six Commissioners. They are all elected by wards, two from each of the City’s three wards. The Commissioners serve four-year overlapping terms. Every two years, the community elects one commissioner from each ward.

GRPD is currently collecting security camera footage, seeking witness statements, and processing additional evidence.

Additional details have not been released at this time.

GRPD is asking anyone with information to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department at (616) 456-3380 or to report anonymously through Silent Observer.

This is a developing story.
