New Gourmet Popcorn + Ice Cream Shop Opening in Grand Rapids’ East Hills Neighborhood

A new spot for tasty treats is opening up on Wealthy St. in Grand Rapids' East Hills Neighborhood.

Wood TV 8 reports that Popnotch Goods is moving into a storefront at 746 Wealthy St. SE, near Eastern Avenue.

The site is the former home of Root Functional Medicine, which moved to a new location on Cherry St. SE.

According to Popnotch's website, they're the spot for "top-notch snacks" in Grand Rapids, serving "gourmet popcorn, ice cream by the scoop, and more."

Popnotch owner Patrick Avila tells Wood TV 8 he was inspired to open up his own popcorn shop store after coming across a gourmet popcorn business while deer hunting in a small town in Illinois. The shop owner helped Avila learn the "popcorn basics", he tells Wood TV 8, which he's taken a step further  “to really give it a gourmet touch.”

Avila plans to serve up to 12 flavors of popcorn, including:

• Chocolate Drizzle
• Caramel
• Caramel and Cheddar Chicago Mix
• Dill Pickle
• Classic Movie Theater
• Kettle corn with dark chocolate, white chocolate, and raspberries
• Kettle corn with milk and dark chocolate

In terms of ice cream, Avila is planning to offer traditional flavors in dairy and non-dairy options.

The new store will have an open kitchen so guests can watch the popcorn being made and seating inside for approximately 10, Wood TV 8 reports.

If all goes as planned, Avila hopes to begin construction soon and open Popnotch Goods by June.
