Northern Michigan has started spring with a crippling ice storm. The thick coating of ice struck roughly the entire top third of the Lower Peninsula.

Power has been out and roads difficult to travel from Petoskey to Alpena, Gaylord to Mackinac City.

The ice has caused the closure of the Mackinac Bridge, toppled broadcast towers, closed state park faculties and even saw people heading to natural artesian springs for water.

Now many drivers, as the roads become passable, are finding the region is low on gasoline and facing long lines were there is fuel.

As power remains out in many locations, the few service stations able to power up are seeing long lines.

The Emmet County Helping Hands Facebook group has shared information about long fuel lines across the Northern Lower Peninsula.

A fuel line at Meijer in Petoskey reportedly ran a quarter mile long. Many shared stories on where they found fuel and how long it took:

Went to boyne didn't wait more than 15 20 mins

I’ve been in line on pleasant I’ll for 2 hours

Alanson marathon has fuel

Another fuel trouble spot is in Sault Ste. Marie. With the Bridge closed, regular fuel deliveries to the area have been halted. That has left most service stations in the region with limited supply or out.
