Expect Severe Fall Out from a Nuclear Attack in These Sections of Michigan
When it comes to the prospect of nuclear war, no one believes the Cold War era fallacy of schoolchildren ducking under their desks to survive. An actual strike of intercontinental ballistic missiles with a nuclear warhead would irrevocably change life on the planet.
A map showing potential strike locations based on wargaming simulations (spoiler alert: it's lots of major population centers) puts much of Lower Michigan in the danger zone.

When the map was shared recently on Reddit the top comment came from someone in West Michigan looking at the strike zones, "Why...are they coming for me in Grand Rapids?"
And it's not just Grand Rapids. Check out the map with targets at Kalamazoo, the Lake Michigan shore and Metro Detroit.
The reason for the Grand Rapids strike potential:
Primarily GE Aviation and L3Harris.
Secondarily, Gerald Ford International Airport, the 2 large CSX railroad yards, and the 4ESS switch.
So what makes those hot targets?
GE Aviation is also GE Aerospace. Located near the airport in Kentwood the company develops jet engines and tech with military applications.
L3Harris? They also hold contracts to serve the defense industry and are located near the airport. Among their work according to Wikipedia:
command and control systems, wireless equipment, tactical radios, avionics and electronic systems, night vision equipment, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C3ISR) systems and products, ocean systems, instrumentation, navigation products, training devices and services, and both terrestrial/spaceborne antennas for use in the government, defense, and commercial sectors.
As for the CSX railyards, an attack there would disrupt the movement of goods and materiel via train.
Last, the 4ESS switch? That deals with telecommunications and the routing of telephone lines. A Google search turns up one such switch likely located at the ATT building at Division and Fountain in downtown Grand Rapids.

So beyond a hot zone with the auto industry in Detroit, nuclear power faculties on the shorelines, there would appear to be high value target throughout much of Lower Michigan.
Northern Michigan, on the other hand, is largely devoid of likely targets for a strike.
