Sure Detroit Pizza is Everywhere, But This Out-of-State Michigan Themed Pizzeria Really Hits
Detroit style pizza has been having a cultural moment for several years now. The square deep pizza has shown up on menus from major chains and in the frozen food isle in grocery stores across America. So it's not new to see a restaurant that features Detroit pizza.
What may come as a pleasant surprise to Michiganders to find a pizzeria, in New York City of all places, that is all about Michigan.

That pizzeria is located in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood at 23rd and 8th. The name totally gives away its Michigan roots: Lions & Tigers & Squares Detroit Pizza.
The appeal? To those online it's not the pizza style but the nod to Michigan
To me it's a bigger deal that it says lions and tigers. Not just that it has Detroit Pizza. Because as you said Detroit Pizza is everywhere. Jets is in like 3/4 of the country

The pizza, and it's just pizza on the menu, is served in a rectangle cut into 4 slices likely enough to serve one or two. The pepperoni used is the natural casing - the kind that curls.
And the reviews of those who have visited?
A serious treasure of a place. The dude at the front counter was super nice, and they offer a good variety of pies. It's a small space, maybe about a 10 by 20 ft to stand in, one high kind of counter to eat a slice on real fast. Certainly more of a get your pie and go. I love how it's legitimate Detroit Pizza and not a Sicilian pie masquerading as a Detroit pie.
That's an important distinction, particularly in New York with Sicilian pie is a thing.
So many places claim to have "Detroit-style" pizza, but this is the real deal. Your taste buds will think they've died and gone to Buddy's (iykyk). It's not just that deep dish square that some think is enough -- it's a perfect blend of crispy with a slight doughy taste as well. My fellow Detroiter ex-pats -- you gotta give this a try.
So in a city known for its thin, large floppy slices of pizza there is a taste of Detroit, if you know where to look.
