One Hit Wonder Wednesday on The Night Shift – 1969
It's another One Hit Wonder Wednesday Night Shift with Craig Allen tonight from 7:00 to Midnight on 98.7 WFGR. This week we jumping back to 1969. We will highlight a different era of One Hits Wonders every Weds night.
YOUNGBLOODS - GET TOGETHER: This folk-rock group from Boston featured lead singer Jesse Colin Young. "Get Together" was released twice first in 1967 but it only hit #62. Two years later it went all the way to #5 in June of '69.
SPIRAL STARECASE – MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY: This Sacramento Pop-rock group had three Top 100 songs, but only "More Today than Yesterday" would go Top 40 reaching #12 in April.
ZAGER & EVANS – IN THE YEAR 2525. Funny 2525 doesn't seem that far away now. but that's still 500 years from now. Nope none of us will be around "In The Year 2525" The band is Denny Zager and Rick Evans from Nebraska. They look pretty folksy in this video as that was the sound at the end of the 60's decade with Mamas & Papas and Peter, Paul and Mary. But the sound was changing with bands like the Doors bringing Rock n Roll to the forefront.
STEAM – NA NA HEY HEY KISS HIM GOODBYE: The band STEAM was only assembled after it became a hit. The Chicago White Sox were one of many teams to make this an Anthem at Ballparks across America. And was reissued as the Chicago White Sox in 1976.
EDDIE HOLMAN – HEY THERE LONELY GIRL: This song for Eddie reached #2 and went gold is actually a twist off a remake of Hey There Lonely Guy. by Ruby and the Romantics and only hit #63. His version reached #2 a few weeks before Christmas in 1969. Eddie is from Virginia, but was raised in New York & Philly. He had 4 Top 100 songs, but only one was a hit.
