Pedestrian Bridge Collapses Onto Michigan Freeway [Video]
A bridge over I-94 in Detroit collapsed onto the road surface, causing some traffic headaches early Friday morning.
Fortunately, the light traffic because of the Stay-At-Home order and the early hour prevented anyone from being hurt by the incident, which occurred at 5:20 am Friday.
Michigan State Police say the collapse happened shortly after the Townsend Pedestrian Bridge was struck by a truck which did not enough clearance to get under the bridge.
Westbound lanes of I-94 are still shut down following the collapse, which happened near Van Dyke Road (M-53). Eastbound lanes were not affected, but there was a slow down because of looky-loos.
Crews will be on the scene shortly to remove the debris and finish dismantling the structure. That will also temporarily close the east bound lanes as well.
