As the sun attempted to break through the clouds, West Michigan began seeing the damage left behind from nearly endless rain followed by flooding. The field of Waldo Stadium at Western Michigan University appears to be completely under water.

The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County shared pictures of damage from Comstock Township showing a portion of East Michigan Avenue washed away, bringing down a power line with it and causing morning commute headaches with multiple road closures in and around the greater Kalamazoo area.

Tonya Renae Hose shared the two photos above of flooding near Riverview Drive on Spring Brook, just north of Parchment. If you look closely, you can see what appears to be a dock completely surrounded by water.

Annette Pfeifer captured these images of a flooded parking lot of an apartment complex on 11th Street between Michigan Avenue and KL Avenue.

With flooding brings safety concerns. If you come across a roadway covered with water, turn around. There were reports of cars stranded in flooded roadways Thursday morning. It can be hard to tell the depth until it is too late, leaving you stranded. Tow trucks will not attempt retrieving a vehicle in flood waters until the water has receded.

As you can see from the photos above, roadways and adjoining shoulders can be washed away. Pooled water could easily hide these hazards making for a very dangerous situation.

Farmers in Michigan are really struggling this year.

Check your basements. There have been many reports of flooding in basements. Make sure anything of importance is stored correctly and off of the floor.
