Student enrollment at Grand Valley State University has hit record numbers.

This fall, GVSU will welcome 4,226 first-year students and 25,094 total students, both are records.

GVSU also reports a record high percentage of minority students at 15.6 percent, in addition to a record number of international students (more than 400) and out-of-state students (1,384).

“What these numbers represent is that Grand Valley is true to its commitment to students,” President Thomas J. Haas said. “We want controlled growth so we can ensure quality programs and smaller class sizes. We also have a keen eye on what our students need to be successful in pursuing careers or advanced degrees. Our academic programs, with our liberal education base, are relevant to the region and the world.”

GVSU also reports increases in the engineering, health professions, nursing and business programs.

Grand Valley has the third highest graduation rate of all public universities in Michigan and about 85 percent of graduates stay in Michigan to begin their careers or graduate work.
