A fast food chain that some people will drive miles to eat at is set to expand their locations in Michigan.

The chain is Schlotzsky's. Best known for their signature sandwiches the restaurant was founded in Austin, Texas and the Lone Star State remains their base with more than 200 of the chain's 335 store footprint.

The chain once had a much larger reach across Michigan and the Great Lakes region with locations in West Michigan in cities like Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.

However, the chain is once again expanding announcing a franchise partner is opening 5 locations in Metro Detroit. Specifically, they are targeting the city's western suburbs. The first location is slated to open in mid-2025 according to trade journal FastCasual.

Detroit once had a Schlotzky's location downtown on Monroe Street and near Wayne State on Woodward Ave. There were also shops in Taylor and Ann Arbor.

Schlotzky's is part of a restaurant group that also include well known brands like Auntie Anne's Pretzels, McAllister's Deli, Moe's Southwest Grill and Cinnabon. That relationship is best seen with Cinnabon as products from that brand are available via the Battle Creek Schlotzky's locations.

The news was shared to the Detroit subreddit on Reddit where reactions where excited.

Y’all can act like this is no big deal, but Schlotzsky’s fxxxing rules and this is the best news I’ve seen all week.

These places were awesome. I'm so glad these seem to be coming back.
