The Southeastern and Big 10 have emerged as the power-power elite conferences in the still-ongoing realignment of the sport. With the biggest schools and most lucrative television rights, these two groups have wrested the power to dictate much of the future of the sport.

A sticking point between the two: Big 10 schools play a slate of 9 conference games while the SEC plays a shorter slate (notice how many 'cupcake games' the SEC has to open each season?).

Wider across the region, it bring the possibility of neighborly rivalries like Illinois/Missouri or the renewal of lost rivalries like Nebraska re-discovering Big 12 foes Texas and Oklahoma.
Many fans speculate that meetings like this will eventually lead to an envisioned 'super league' of power teams.
Where the conferences do agree - both would like to have 4 automatic bids each into a 14-team playoff format.
In this era of college football, the only certainty is change. Oh and money, there's money to be had. That's for certain, too.
