Two people were killed in a shooting on Grand Rapids southeast side Friday night. These are the 24th and 25th homicides in the city in 2020.

Wood TV 8 reports the shooting happened around 8:20p.m. on Highland Street SE near Prospect Avenue.

Multiple calls were made to 911 about shooting in the area. When police arrived they found one victim in a home who later died at the hospital. The second victim was taken to the hospital in a private car and was also pronounced deceased.

The two victims are adult males. Their identities have not yet been released.

According to Wood TV 8:

It has been an unusually violent year in Grand Rapids, with 25 homicides so far and more than three months still left in 2020. The last time there were so many deaths was in the early 1990s, when street gangs were embroiled in a crack war.
