Several Toyota Tundra pickup trucks are being recalled for an unusual reason -- the headlights could catch fire.

The models that are being recalled are Toyota Tundras manufactured between June 6, 2017 and March 24, 2021. There have been several reported incidents of the headlights malfunctioning and causing the trucks to catch fire. Toyota is reporting 18 field reports and 47 warranty claims about these headlights.

Consumer Reports is saying that there is faulty wiring in these trucks that causes the high and low beam headlights to be on at the same time. This can cause the bulbs to overheat and fail, with some starting a fire.

What to do if you have one of these vehicles...

If you drive one of these 158,000 Toyota Tundras that are being recalled, one of the suggested remedies is to not turn on  your headlights. We all know that with the days getting shorter, that just isn't a good option. The best solution is to take your Tundra to your nearest Toyota dealer and the bulbs and faulty wiring will be replaced free of charge.

Toyota will be sending out letters to owners of the affected vehicles in October. Owners can also contact Toyota at (800) 331-4331.

This recall is not the only recall for pickup trucks this year. Earlier this year, Ford recalled 2.6 million vehicles. In July, GM recalled 400,000 of their trucks because of exploding airbags.

If you would like to check to see if your vehicle has any recalls, visit the NHTSA's website. You will need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find out if your vehicle has been recalled. (The VIN number is usually found on the lower, driver's side, front windshield.) You might be surprised to find that your vehicle does indeed have something that needs to be corrected. In most cases, those repairs are made free of charge.
