
Michigan DNR Opens Up Volunteer Opportunities to Clean up Parks Ravaged by Ice Storm
Even several weeks after a crippling ice storm hit Northern Michigan clean up continues as does the work to restore power. The state's Department of Natural Resources has put out a call for volunteers to assist in cleaning up the state parklands devastated by the ice.
Sharing on Facebook, the state's DNR says,
We’ve have many people expressing interest in volunteering to help with cleanup efforts in state parks, campgrounds and trails following the historic ice storm that tore through northern Michigan.
For your safety and to avoid interfering with ongoing emergency efforts, please do not attempt any trail or state park cleanup efforts without our explicit permission.

Michigan State Park Ice Storm Clean-Up Volunteer Information
The volunteer form covers work both in the parks and DNR trail system. Prepositive volunteers are asked to share their name, organization if they are representing a group as well as desired level of physical labor from easy to moderate to hard. Additionally, volunteers are asked where they would like to serve, in a park, state forest campground or trail. Finally, you will be asked for any specific skills, equipment or certifications you may have.

In addition to the state parks, three specific hard-hit Michigan counties are looking for volunteers to assist in clean-up and recovery. Those volunteers are needed in Alpena, Cheboygan and Montmorency Counties.
