Type O negative blood is extremely important. Only 9 percent of people have it, but 100 percent of the population can receive it. Michigan Blood says the 60 Michigan hospitals they serve are currently experiencing a shortage of Type O negative blood.

Michigan Blood is celebrating their 60th Anniversary with a Labor Day weekend blood drive. Donors are invited to draw on large Michigan mittens which will be on display during ArtPrize. Those who attempt to donate will also earn a $10 Meijer gift card.
