The 2017 Grandwich Entries Are In, And Now I’m REALLY Hungry

Starting Wednesday, July 5, 33 Grand Rapids restaurants will put their original sandwich creations up to a public vote in the third annual Grandwich competition.

Now let's look at some of this year's entries.

Social Kitchen has put forth a hot chicken sandwich topped with a fried egg, for what Paul Simon might refer to as a 'Mother and Child Reunion

Not everything is a savory delight as East Hills' Furniture City Creamery shows us with this sweet treat, 'Nacho Mama's Taco'.

Some offer sandwiches that can't be eaten with your hands, like this offering from The Cheshire Kitchen, which features a burger piled high with chili and fries called 'The Horseshoe Burger'.

Fish is a standard Michigan sandwich go to in the summertime, as evidenced by this 'Trout Rueben' served up by the Bulls Head Tavern.

And we're long past the day when a sandwich is defined by bread surrounding meat, so here's a 'Double Down', using fried chicken as the bread surrounding ham and bacon from Wheelhouse.
