From the Indiana state line to the Straits of Mackinac there are special roads that hug the coast of Lake Michigan from big cities to small towns.

Moving up the coast line, you'll quickly find that there are actually few streets that touch the actual coastline of Lake Michigan. Much of the land is natural space and some is residential with the houses on the beach while the road sits back without a view of the lake.

Elsewhere the bluffs are well above the lake which may offer a view of the lake (or not) but don't touch the lapping waters.

Further there are fewer towns along the coast than you may think. And some of those 'beach towns' are more inland and not on the lake itself (think Saugatuck or  Montague/Whitehall)
