When you're you shopping or travelling an announcement over a store intercom is almost certainly white noise to you. But if you know the codes, they either perk up your ears with interest or perhaps warning.

There are well-known Wal-Mart store codes that shoppers should be aware of.

The same concept of codes issued to retail workers exists in other industries and chains as well. There's a code everyone should know if they are at a truck stop/travel plaza.

A trucker shared on Reddit recently that at the Love's Truck Stop chain a 'Code Orange' means busses have pulled up to the parking lot. Workers should be alert to a mass influx of shoppers, diners and - perhaps most importantly - restroom users.

For those who are individual or family travelers, a Code Orange may mean to wrap up your business quickly before the lines get really long. One trucker shared:

If you haven't already hit the can and standing in line with your roller grill diarrhea just leave. These damn busses destroy the ability to do anything in a truck stop.

On the other side of the spectrum, a bus driver shares that truck stops are not their preferred stop along the highway.

I'm a motor coach operator and generally it's not recommended, unless it's just the closest/only option to stop or if the group leader/coach says so, to stop at truck stops with big groups because you're going to be there minimum an hour.

Personally I only stop at truck stops for the bathroom and keep everyone on the bus or if I'm alone, stop for food or fuel.

Add a truck stop 'Code Orange' as another little tidbit of knowledge for better navigating life. And it's worth noting that this reported code is for the Love's chain and not necessarily an industry standard while 'Code Orange' can mean other things in other retail establishments.
