There's pressure every year to do better for Valentine's Day, if you have someone to share the day with. If you're like me and you don't, have a great Singles Awareness Day! But if you have a Significant Other, you may feel pressure to be more romantic, or do something more fun that last year.

Chocolate and flowers just doesn't cut it anymore. Especially if you're looking to get a little extra "romantic" at the end of the night.

One night, or weekend excursions seem to the cool thing to do now, and there are a lot of cool getaway places right here in Michigan that are romantic, and not far away! It's time to be the Valentine's Day hero she secretly wants you to be.

Ann Arbor is a romantic place, with lots of good restaurants, wine bars, museums, and art galleries. You know she'll love walking around looking at art, whether you get it or not.

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse is always a cool place, and people will love to see your romantic pictures at a lighthouse. People are obsessed with lighthouses. The village or Northport is also a quiet little town, great for escapes, and they have the Mitten Brewing Company there, too, so both of you can enjoy the weekend.

The Keweenaw Peninsula has a nice place called Copper Harbor, and you can rent little rustic cabins for that extra little dose of romantic Valentine's sappiness! You'll even have a great view of Lake Superior!

Apparently, Frankenmuth isn't just for Christmas sightseeing! They have an amazing indoor waterpark, as well as Michigan's oldest brewery, Frankenmuth Brewery. There are also riverboat cruises you can book to head over to the brewery. Multi-purpose romantic activity...check!

If you want to brave the trip to the UP, Ishpeming is apparently lovely. The tiny town has tons of small, locally owned shops and restaurants, and you know how women love cute little places. Quaint is one of their favorite words!

If a big city is more your thing, Detroit could be the way to go. It's only a couple hours east, and there's tons to do there. You can hit the spa to get pampered, check out the museums and restaurants, and go downtown and hit the clubs and bars.

Ludington is one of those nearby places that people forget about. Great beaches, year-round hiking and cross-country trails, and "that adorable bed and breakfast!" that she'll tell all her friends about. Score a lot of points in Ludington, guys.

Petoskey is a little farther, but still a great area, and pretty much all touristy and fun. Beaches and hiking trails are open all year, and there's even more casinos to go enjoy! There's also a TON a great food and drink in this little town.

Find out more about these places to get away on the Michigan website, and maybe you'll make a great impression this year, and be richly rewarded for your efforts!
