Monday morning a Van Buren County store clerk stopped a robbery by chasing down a suspect with a snow plow.

WWMT reports that the incident happened around 8:40a.m. at Country Lakes General Store on M-40 in Lawton.

According to witnesses, the suspect walked into the store wearing a mask. He asked the clerk for lottery tickets and acted like he wanted to make a purchase. He then grabbed $122 in lottery tickets and ran.

According to Fox 17, the suspect is a 26-year-old man from Paw Paw.

The store clerk followed on M-40 in his truck, which had a snow plow attached to the front.

The plow struck the suspect, who fell in a ditch. The suspect got up and attempted to flee again, but the clerk tackled him and held him until police arrived.

It was later discovered the suspect had a machete hidden in his pants. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

A Van Buren County police sergeant said the suspect will be charged with retail fraud, because he did not threaten anyone with the machete. He also said it is unlikely the clerk will face charges for hitting the suspect with the plow.
