Making a free throw is pretty common in the game of basketball unless you're Shaq.

Blind Zeeland East High School Student Sinks Free Throw

What makes Zeeland East High Schooler Jules Hoogland's free throw shot so amazing is that she is blind. In order for her to make the shot, the entire gym went silent and Cheryl Beute repeatedly tapped the back of the backboard with a stick so Jules could hear where to aim. It took several shots, but Jules made it and the crowd went absolutely wild with excitement.

The game between Zeeland East and Zeeland West was part of the Unified Sports Program for special education students.

What Is The Unified Sports Program

Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

In Unified Sports, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability. That makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sport in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away.
