Which Wich Sandwich Shop Quietly Preps First West Michigan Location

A new sandwich shop is set to enter the West Michigan restaurant scene as construction for a Which Wich is underway near Gun Lake.

The sandwich shop will be adjacent to the Noonday Market across from Gun Lake Casino on M-179.

Billboards have sprouted up along US-131 approaching the Gun Lake exit promoting both the sandwich shop and a shop offering gelato, Paciugo.

Which Wich was founded in Texas in 2003 and set itself apart from other sub chains by its unique ordering concept where diners marked a bag with their choice of sandwich as well as toppings.

Domestically, unit development has been difficult for the sandwich chain. Between the start of 2020 and 2023, Which Wich lost a net of 134 U.S. locations, including 68 stores in 2020 when the pandemic first hit. That brought the chain’s footprint from roughly 360 U.S. restaurants to about 220. There were more than 430 outlets in mid-2018.

In 2022, the company opened eight franchised locations and terminated or closed 50 units.

The nearest Which Wich locations to West Michigan are in Mount Pleasant on the Central Michigan University campus as well as a cluster of shops in the South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana area.
