Whitecap Completes ‘Cycle’ In Best Way Possible [Video]

The West Michigan Whitecaps Eric De La Rosa hit for the cycle Sunday, getting a single, double, triple and a homer in one game. But it was his homer that was the best.

It's been two years since a Whitecaps player hit for the cycle. That means getting every type of hit possible in a single game. A single, double, triple and home run.

De La Rosa becomes the first Whitecap to hit for the cycle since Ulrich Bojarski accomplished the feat against the Burlington Bees back on May 5th, 2019.

De La Rosa saved the best for last, hitting a two-run homer run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Caps to a 12-10 win over the Dayton Dragons at Lake Michigan Credit Union Park.

De La Rosa is a 24 year old infielder from Spring Valley, CA. He is a seventh round pick for the parent Detroit Tigers, and recently was promoted to the High A Whitecaps from the Low A Lakeland Tigers.

De La Rosa's hitting for the cycle is also unique because the hits actually occurred on two different days. Yesterday's action at LMCU Park began with a game resumed from Friday night before the rains hit. The feat is also pretty incredible because it occurred in a seven inning game, albeit one that went into extra innings.

Dayton was leading 7-4 when play resumed, and the Caps eventually rallied to tie it 8-8 in the seventh. In the top of the eighth, Dayton forged ahead 10-8 before the Caps managed to tie it 10-10, paving the way for De La Rosa's big blast, which you can watch below.

Unfortunately, the Dragons won the regularly scheduled game immediately following the heroics, 5-3.

The Whitecaps begin a six-game road trip against the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday at 7:35 pm.
