A project called the World Hum Map tracks reports of those who have heard The Hum.

While you may suspect that areas around metro Detroit, specifically Zug Island, an area responsible for the Windsor Hum, there are only a few reports around Detroit's Downriver Region. The Windsor Hum, a constant low rumble experienced by residents of Windsor, Ontario, was revealed to be the work of heavy machinery on Zug Island. The work was halted during the pandemic and the Hum disappeared.

With Detroit having a large population, a preponderance of reports in the state do come from the area. Some, like a report of persistent engines in Romulus, may make sense due to the airport there, others make less sense.

Similarly a report near Kalamazoo's paper mills and Muskegon's industrial core likely have an explanation. Reports of the phenomenon in Petoskey and Copper Harbor less so.
