What do you do when you've got a 1,000 pound ball of lint?

Set it on fire, apparently.

Dryer Vent Wizard has been gathering lint from their 95 locations around the country since spring in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for biggest ball of lint. The goal was to get more than 99 pounds of lint. They have over 1,000 pounds.

The giant lint ball is being gathered in a shipping container. The lint will be formed into a ball, officially weighed on a crane, then set on fire in Farmington Hills on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Why?

To raise awareness of the danger of dryer fires and drum up some business in the process. The National Fire Protection Association says there is an average of 15,970 dryer fires in the U.S. annually.

Farmington Hills Fire Department will be there to help promote safety and to extinguish the blaze.

The lint ball formation, weigh-in and fire will take place at 27245 Halsted Road in Farmington Hills on Sept. 19 between noon and 3:00 p.m.
